for a rethinking of immigration reform. on the official republican side, you have karl rove who's a fox contributor leading this effort to create a super pac to get rid of candidates like steve king in iowa or everyone remembers todd akin in missouri. these candidates that they think are not electable in general elections. >> you know, it's interesting about fox, yesterday you guys, "politico" had -- and i just saw it as i was reading this. okay, seriously? how much worse can it get for conservatives? it's like kicking the elephant when it's down and dying here. i think dylan byers put up a poll that talked about the most trusted networks and the least trusted networks and talked about how fox's -- people's trust in fox has gone down. fox still, obviously, was well above a lot of other networks. but i thought the real kick in the teeth of conservatives was the most trusted network in america by almost a 2-1 margin while everybody else was upside down. did you read dylan's post? do you know what the answer to that is? >> i don't know the answer to that. i must confess, i did not read it yet. >> b.s.

connected, of course, with karl rove and the others who are very active in the last election cycle. what do you try to fix? what is the problem -- the republican problem you're trying to correct? >> our goal is to basically trying to institutionalize the william f. buckley rule when he said that the goal should be to try to nominate the most conservative candidate who can win, and that's going to be different in each individual state, but we saw looking back at this last cycle was some significant candidate quality problems. some of the mainstream candidates were like that. we had some really segment self-destructive candidates who ended up impacting ordinaries on the ballot too, like todd akin in missouri and richard murdock in indiana. our goal is to see if we can try to find those candidates who are going to be discipline and can raise the money and be competitive in a general election. >> is iowa one of your top priorities snou in. >> i think almost any race where we see an opportunity either to compete for an open seat or go after an incumbent in a red state, and there are a number of

by karl rove trying to come out to support more mainstream candidates against people like paul brown. but you can't spend four years where your only ideology is calling the president is socialist trying to convince the american people that he wants to take down the country with his socialist rhetoric and kill babies and take our guns. then the country didn't believe it, but their base bought into a lot of that. you can't spend four years doing that then turn around and say we don't want these candidates who's reflecting the ideology we have been promoting. they were happy to ride that wave when it was good for them in 2010 when there was a tea party wave and it brought them to power in the house. now we're seeing the backlash and those choices are creating a problem for them in the senate. they could have potentially taken the senate if they hadn't had candidates like todd akin, christine o'donnell. that's going to be the real fight for this year. are they going to continue nominating unelectable out there candidates or are they going to come back to a mainstream party? >> well, paul
